“Almost Pudding” is a concoction I stumbled upon when tired and mildly hangry post-workout one day. I tried adding about 6 ounces of milk to a scoop of my vegan mocha SunWarrior protein powder,* which, when shaken, immediately turned into a smooth, thick protein sludge, instead of the chocolate-milk-like consistency I was anticipating. It was “almost-pudding,” looking like, but not quite tasting anything remotely like, chocolate pudding. But hey, it was different, and I had 39 servings left in the container, so I’ve made it at least 15 times since then and almost like it.
So here’s the incredibly simple recipe for:
Another almost good post-workout protein snack to add to the list of almost foods you eat before, during and after exercise.
(Click on any of the images above for sideshow with directions.)
- 1 scoop mocha SunWarrior protein powder
- 4-6 ounces cold milk (cow’s, soy, almond, etc.) or water depending on your desired pudding thickness
- Add protein powder and liquid to a bowl and stir until they form a pudding-like consistency.
- Enjoy immediately or cover and refrigerate for later almost-enjoyment.
*Note: SunWarrior’s plant-based protein powder is the only protein supplement I’ve used with this unique ability to soak up 4-6 ounces of water or milk effectively for this “almost-pudding” snack. I don’t know if this makes it better, worse or just a little different than other protein powders–I’ll let you try it and decide.

Curious if Mocha is your favorite flavor from SunWarrior?
Been looking for a protein to try since whey is out for me now, and Its so much easier to have something like almost-pudding after a workout than cook in the van in winter…
Mocha is the only SunWarrior flavor I’ve tried so far, but the chocolate flavor might produce a more pudding-like taste. I definitely understand not wanting to cook in the van during the winter – I don’t cook outside of my tiny home “box” right now, but I wouldn’t call “almost pudding” a satisfying dinner either. It’s more of a quick post-workout snack when you’re rushed or a good recovery-boosting before bed snack.
